“Primula Palinuri”

Primula Palinuri Padegna is its scientific name - was discovered in 1787 by Vincenzo Pedagna, gymnasium teacher keen on botany, when he docked in Palinuro's port to rest. In the second half of 1500 Fabio Colonna briefly described this plant without giving it a name. This plant thrives throughout the area included between Capo Palinuro and Baia degli Infreschi. It is still present up to Dino Isle where a few ones can be as high and wide as 50 cm.

It starts flourishing in February and stops at the beginning of the Spring. It is mainly exposed to North, North-West, North-East. Its roots stretch into the cracks of limestone or sandy rocks. At altitudes of more than 300 above sea level this plant is not present.

Today it is the symbol of the "Parco Nazionale del Cilento e del Vallo di Diano" - Cilento and Diano Valley National Park.
