Our suggestions: What there is to .. do

Excursions
by Giacomo Ciociano

The National Park, Nature, And Men: Excursion to WWF Morigerati And Borgo di Bosco Wildlife Reserve.

The Bussento river in Campania region penetrates into the ground for a 6-km-long stretch then comes out again not far away from Morigerati town. In 1995 the area where the Bussento river came out from the ground became a OASI thanks to WWF striving to protect the local flora and fauna. The excursion includes a walk down a path rich in greenery and then into a hole in the ground following the river flow for about 80 m under the ground. Stop for lunch in Bosco town. Visit to Bosco's old town centre which was razed to the ground by the Bourbon army in 1828. The village is rich in frescoes and paintings since it housed Ortega, a Picasso's friend and disciple, before his death.

Maratea: il Cristo and its coast

Maratea is viewed as a the pearl in the Basilicata region. But not there only. It is a mix of natural, architectural, traditional, beautiful features. It is worthy spending at least a whole day there. The tour includes: the old town centre (small avenues, palaces, gates, churches), Christ's statue (22-m high), caves in Marina di Maratea, and a boat excursion along the coast and a stop to take a swim. You will have lunch at restaurant serving a fish menu and overlooking the sea port.

Cilento's art and inhabitants

A visit to S.Severino di Centola, a deserted village - better known as "ghost town" located on Mingardo River's superb valley - its houses making it a unique setting. Then a visit to Licusati, a town famous for its large olive oil production; an olive mill, where you can taste Pisciotta's typical high quality olive oil. Stop in Camerota Alta to visit terracotta craftsmen's shops, where a terracotta processing exhibition takes place. Visit to Lentiscelle cave in Marina di Camerota, where the "Leon di Caprera", a small 9.5-metre-long schooner used in 1880 by three Italians, one of them was Pietro Troccoli, to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Eventually stop in a tourist farm where you can enjoy typical local rural dishes.

Il periplo di Capo Palinuro

Excursion on typical local Capo Palinuro's fishermen boats to visit the fascinating inner side of Palinuro's caves: Blue Cave, Blood Cave, Monks Cave, and Bones Cave; then the tour stops on Buondormire Beach for you to have a rest or a swim and taste a good glass of Fragolino wine.

Infreschi Coast

Starting from Marina di Camerota, you can visit caves, grottoes, and small beaches stretching along Marina di Camerota's wonderful coast. While you are approaching the rocks, you can drink water from one of the springs of fresh water coming from the mountains and flowing across those rocks. Then the tour stops shortly for you to take a swim in Infreschi natural port. On the way back there will be a nice terracotta gift for you.
